Jet and flat steel wire

Circa 1870

Measures 2.25'' interior diameter

Memory coil bracelet made of faceted jet beads with smiling snake head and tail. Victorian mourning jewelry commonly used the symbol of the snake as a sign of eternity. He is made from faceted cup shaped beads that slide on flat steel memory wire. The piece flexes to fit most wrists and springs back into place nicely, wraps around twice. Inner side of beads are smooth, which is a lovely design touch to make this a very comfortable piece when worn.

He is very old, has some small chips on edges, due to the age to of the beads. His head has an antique repair, and there is glue at the base on his head- only visible from interior of bracelet, not seen when worn. No maker's mark, but most of these pieces were not typically signed.
